Skilled mountain guide who led James Longmire, John Muir, and many other early climbing parties to Mount Rainier. Also an early settler in the Eatonville area who prospered and lived comfortably within both Native and Euro-American circles.

Climber and national park advocate accompanied John Muir to Rainier’s summit; named Muir Camp and several other places on the mountain.

In 1870 along with A.D. Wilson becomes the second successful party to reach the summit of Mount Rainier.

Fay Fuller age 17, made it her goal to someday climb Mount Rainier. Three years later, Fay was on her way to summiting the 14,411-foot mountain.

In August of 1870, Hazard Stevens:, along with Philemon B. Van Trump, made the first successful documented ascent of Mount Rainier.

In 1870, Van Trump along with Stevens becomes the first successful documented climbing party to summit Mount Rainier. Also notable for his friendship with John Muir and early involvement with the Sierra Club.

If ever Washington had a true Renaissance man, it would be Edmond S. Meany. His name is well recognized around Puget Sound associated with the University of Washington, a hotel, and as a mountain in the Olympic National Park.

In 1833, Tolmie becomes first European to visit and record the glaciers and plants of what is now Mount Rainier National Park.
