On March 2, 1899, the United States Congress approved an Act to set aside a portion of certain lands in the State of Washington, then known as the "Pacific Forest Reserve," as a public park to be known as Mount Rainier National Park.
Today, Mount Rainier National Park celebrates its 112th anniversary as the fifth oldest national park in the United States.
